Our objective is to reduce blockage drain and water pollution by utilizing the use of wasted fruit peels especially banana (Musa Balbisiana) and oranges (Citrus Sinensis) as it is cheaper, eco-friendly and easily available from stalls, dining halls and restaurants. This adsorbent powder, namely F-OBER, was prepared by drying the waste fruit peels and then grinding them into powder before being treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). F-OBER may be used as an alternative for removing oils with different density from water as banana peels (BP) and orange peels (OP) can adsorb oil due to their high cellulose content. The hybridization of different ratios of banana peel (BP) to orange peel (OP) that are 2:1, 1.5:1.5 and 1:2 was used to determine the absorption potential for lubricant oil and cooking oil. Our research data showed the amount ratio of 2BP:1OP has the highest adsorption power with percentage removal of nearly 50.4% for the adsorption of both types of oils. Its biodegradable property will not be harmful to the environment thus, used F-OBER can be sent off as a biodiesel source. F-OBER may become an alternative to overcome problems related to clogged drain, polluted river or ocean caused by oil waste or oil spill.
