The large amounts of abandoned oyster shell in ostrea-culture have led to serious environmental problem and health hazard. Oyster shells are created when the oyster secretes the proteins and minerals from the mantle extracellularly, they don’t shed their shell they enlarge as they grow. Also, oyster shells are calcareous porous materials The use of oyster shells can provide two clear advantages. Firstly, the consumption of wastes that would otherwise be dispersed in the environment. Next, even more relevant is the reduction of the depletion of natural resources needed for building materials production. The crushed oyster shells are used to adjust soil pH levels, especially in acidic soils, promoting optimal conditions for plant growth. In this context, oyster shell was studied for application as insulating load-bearing concrete. The aim of this innovation is to increase the effect by reducing the particle size of shell co-products in order to improve insulating properties. Thus, rooftop based on oyster shells were made to be characterized in mechanical terms and more particularly in terms of microstructure.
