Plastic is a non-biodegradable material and it takes thousands of years to decompose, causing major problem and issue to the world we are living in. It accumulates in landfills, oceans, rivers, and other natural habitats, posing threats to wildlife and marine ecosystem. Microplastics infiltrate soil ecosystems, affecting soil health and plant growth, and expose humans to chemicals such as phthalates and BPA, which can cause endocrine disruption, reproductive issues, and even cancer. To address this issue, “Rapid Orb” has been innovated which work similar as the plastic but in biodegradable way. Made from food grade materials, it is safe for human consumption. Rapid Orb is designed to reduce plastic waste, especially in oceans and landfills and hence can lessen pollution and reduce the ecological footprint. Apart from that, it also can be an alternative for food packaging. The materials used to produce this product are sodium alginate, calcium lactate, water, flavor and food colouring.These products are mixed and striped together and poured in a mold. Finding shows that Rapid Orb are safe to be used as an alternative food packaging and it may reduce the plastic waste. For future improvement, it is recommended to enhance the functional properties of the product to ensure they meet the requirements for various and wide applications. This includes considerations such as strength, flexibility, barrier properties, and shelf-life.
